The painting was inspired by a photograph taken by her father when she was very young; I love her gaze, already calm, unapologetic, and full of inner force.

With its crackled surface and icon-like composition, I wanted this portrait to evoke both her strength and fragility.
I built the surface slowly, layer by layer, until it carried

both the scars and the light.

She had that rare gift of turning pain into creation

-making art that doesn’t hide behind perfection.
