Shelter is perhaps the most ancient of all human needs. Before everything else there is the need to be protected. Every living creature seeks it instinctively. It is written into our most basic biology.
And yet, in a world of extraordinary wealth and resources, millions have none. Not a roof that holds, not a wall that keeps the cold out, not a place to feel safe. That a need so fundamental can be so unevenly distributed is one of the quiet scandals of our time.
But shelter is more than physical. We also seek it emotionally -a relationship that holds us, an inner place where the world cannot reach. A place to be safe.
