Before sunrise, there is that particular stillness. I wanted to paint that blue hour before dawn, when a new day's ahead -the quiet anticipation. The smooth, fresco-crackled surface of this painting carries the memories of past times, of a certain époque.

I felt like in this scene, with the iron lantern casting its warm light on a platform in a small provincial station, all could be possible again -like a journey to new destinations.
