The outlines of an ancient citadel against the nightfall sky,

at that moment when daylight gives way and windows begin to glow. To me, it's fascinating how humans have always pushed back the dark with whatever fire they could carry.

Candles, lanterns, hearths -a thousand windows holding the night at bay. Some things never change.

The visible brushstrokes on the smooth surface give this place the feeling of somewhere remembered rather than imagined.

The lights above are barely distinguishable from the lights below -as if the shimmering town and the crackled sky are answering each other.
