Some buildings were made to hold light -to gather it, concentrate it, and throw it back into the darkness. This Baroque tower does exactly that.
The brushwork is loose, almost restless, warm paint working its way through the layers like embers caught in stone. Something about this subject demanded that energy. The architecture itself is dramatic, excessive even, and I let the paint follow.
The smooth, crackled surface above sits in quiet contrast -an ancient sky witnessing something that has been happening for centuries. Light blazing from stone, pushing back the night.
Baroque. The word means irregular, extravagant, theatrical. I can't think of a better way to describe what light can do to a building like this -or what this building does to light.
