Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani activist for girls’ education. She began speaking out as a child, writing a BBC blog about life under the Taliban in Swat,
where girls were forbidden to attend school.
In 2012, when she was 15, a Taliban gunman boarded her school bus and shot her in the head in retaliation for her activism. She survived after emergency treatment in Pakistan and further medical care in the United Kingdom,
where she now lives with her family.
After her recovery, Malala became one of the world’s leading advocates for the right to education. She co-founded the Malala Fund and has received numerous international awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize.
